Effect of Sintering Profiles on the Properties and Ageing Resistance of Y-tzp Ceramic

چکیده
A commercially available Y-TZP ceramic powder was fabricated under four different sintering profiles in order to investigate the effects of conventional single-stage sintering (SSS) with dwell times of 1 min and 2 h, respectively, compared with two-stage sintering (TSS), on the physical and mechanical properties of Y-TZP. Sintering was performed up to 1400 o C at a ramp rate of 10 o C/min. It was revealed that samples sintered via TSS yielded better properties than the SSS samples sintered at 1400 o C using a dwell time of 2 h. In the hydrothermal ageing test, TSS samples did not undergo low-temperature degradation via the tetragonal to monoclinic phase transformation. Nevertheless, it was found by XRD analysis that Y-TZP ceramics sintered by the SSS method using a short dwell time of 1 min were effective in maintaining tetragonal phase stability after 50 h of exposure to superheated steam conditions.

The effects of CeO2 addition on the sintering behavior and mechanical properties of Y-TZP have been investigated over a wide sintering regime by pressureless sintering. It has been revealed that small additions of CeO2 (0.3-1.0 wt%) to Y-TZP were beneficial in enhancing the mechanical properties and hydrothermal ageing resistance of Y-TZP. Sintered samples were used to evaluate the bulk density...

Bioinert ceramics, like alumina and zirconia are used mainly for replacements of bones, hip joints and for dental implants. Partially stabilized zirconia ceramics (PSZ or TZP with 3 mol.% or 5 wt.% Y2O3), appear as perspective bioinert ceramics because of their high strength and corrosion resistance. In order to fabricate complex shapes, it is essential to use a near ...

OBJECTIVES. Sandblasting is a common method to try to improve the Y-TZP/veneer bond strength of dental prostheses, however, it may put stress on zirconia surfaces and could accelerate the t→m phase transformation. Y-TZP sandblasting before sintering could be an alternative to improve surface roughness and bonding strength of veneering ceramic. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of ...

The effectiveness of Al2O3 and MnO2 in enhancing mechanical properties and retarding degradation of 3 mol% yttria stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystalline (3Y-TZP) ceramic samples was evaluated by pressureless sintering at temperatures ranging from 1250 C to 1550 C with standard holding time of 2 h. It was observed that the inclusion of Al2O3 and MnO2 into 3Y-TZP was beneficial for the im...
